Welcome to Higher Plain Racing

Hello everyone,

After being an armchair fan of motorsport for more than 30 years, I thought it was time to put my fingers to the keyboard and share my passion for the sport more widely.

I started off watching Formula 1 and BTCC at the weekends with my dad as a child. My Sundays would consist of a car boot sale, being dragged around DIY shops, and then home for lunch with the race on in the background. I’d write the names of the drivers on pieces of paper and race them around the carpet. Then I’d make up tracks using sticks, jars, or bits of cardboard and paper for me to race matchbox cars around. As video games became accessible, my love for creativity and motorsport moved there with sim racing, sim racing commentary, race organising, podcasts (FailCast) and enjoying all kinds of racing games over the years.

This has led me to Higher Plain Racing – a new project. I want to talk about my favourite racing series in a respectful way. Too often everyone embraces the meme culture of the internet – and that’s definitely got its place – but that won’t be what you find here. Instead, you’ll find motorsport musings about different aspects of racing, and a fair bit of armchair analysis of races. I’m no better informed than most of the world, but I’d like to be as I get this project off the ground.

Alongside motorsport, I’d quite like to dedicate a section of this website and its YouTube channel to Sim Racing and racing games. I appreciate that not everyone who likes motorsport is interested in video game racing, so I may look at splitting these out into different websites and channels.

Thanks for coming to look at my content. I can’t wait to inform and entertain you. The website will launch around Summer or Autumn 2025, with articles covering F1, IndyCar, F2 and F3 races across the 2025 season, before going back in time to cover races in the past.

Higher Plain Racing is part of the Higher Plain Network – a one-man indie media project. If you like what I do, please consider supporting me on Patreon for as little as $1/£1 a month. In return, you’ll receive additional perks for supporting me, such as behind-the-scenes content and free downloads. You can also donate using PayPal. Sharing the website helps too. All your support will enable me to produce better content, more often. I’d love to make this a full-time media network and your support can make that happen. Thank you.

I run the Higher Plain Network. It is a collection of websites and media projects about music, games, film, creativity and learning. My aim is to create and support independent media and one day be able to do this as my full-time job.
