Noel León joins Campos For 2026 F2 Campaign

Noel León has become the latest signing for FIA Formula 2, joining Campos Racing for the 2026 campaign. Noel joins the grid following two years in FIA Formula 3. He’ll be joining Nikola Tsolov, also graduating from F3.

Noel León’s career started back in 2013 with Karting before transitioning to open wheelers in 2017. His open wheel career started with NACAM Formula 4, which he won in his third season, taking 14 wins along the way. It was a huge jump in form from his previous two seasons, where he narrowly missed cracking the top 10. With momentum behind him, Noel moved on to Formula 4 USA, winning the championship on his first attempt. Since then, he has competed in Formula Regional European, won the Euroformula Open Championship, and run the Macau GP twice (resulting in a podium on his second try).

In many ways, Noel León’s career has been feast or famine. He joined F3 in 2024 with Van Amersfoort Racing, and grabbed three sprint race podiums and one feature race podium on his way to 10th in the standings. León then switched to Prema Racing for 2025, but the results did not follow. Instead, just two third places in the British and Italian feature races followed, leaving him with less than half the points of the previous season. There were a few clumsy and unfortunate incidents, notably in Hungary. In the sprint, he was forced off wide by Theophile Nael and lost his front wing and retired. Then, come feature race time, he hit James Headley and punted him off. That followed a chop in the Monza sprint, which signalled three incidents in three races, so grabbing the feature race podium would have come as a relief. Despite that, it was his race craft that shone when I first saw him racing in his F4 days. He is scrappy and punchy, but usually quite calculated. Noel usually works best when leading from the front, so qualifying pace and precision will be a key factor for his success in F2.

Noel León is the 5th F2 driver confirmed for 2026 and will be looking to carry the Mexican flag in F2, as the future of current Mexican racer Rafael Villagómez is not known. Like fellow Mexican Sergio Perez, Noel was once a Red Bull driver of sorts, as he was part of their academy in 2022. The partnership was not renewed for 2023. I’m sure Noel will be looking at showing them, and the wider racing world, what he is capable of in 2026.
